Stellaris fallen empires - Submitting to an Awakened Empire imposes a subjugation penalty depending on the empire. It's not a small decrease. It's something like a 25% of your energy and mineral out put, or 33% of your research. If you're strong enough, you can give both empires the finger and score yourself some unbuildable fallen empire structures.

 
Finally stumbled across a fallen empire about 300 years in. I have no borders with them, I've got 4 planets, and nothing out of the ordinary. They immediately demand I remove 3 of my planets and effectively go back to the start of the game (Where my neighbors would crush me right after it). There are 2 Fallen Empire's left on my map and i am looking to Awaken one of them but they seem to be resistant... Like the title says I'm wondering if there is a negative relationship modifier with border friction and fallen empires. They have some nice sectors on the borders of their territory but I don't want to get eaten up over a system or planet. They're not Gaia worlds or anything of that nature. My empire become unmatchable too. Dominated almost 3/4 of galaxy, got bored and want to be a fallen empire.Submitting to an Awakened Empire imposes a subjugation penalty depending on the empire. It's not a small decrease. It's something like a 25% of your energy and mineral out put, or 33% of your research.
